    (ANI)

Kathmandu, Apr.17 : Hindus in Nepal are celebrating Matatirtha Aushi or Mother's Day on Tuesday with various activities.

The religious spring festival is regarded as the day to present mothers with gifts and sweets and receive wishes from her for a better future.

Sweet and gifts shops in Kathmandu have been crowded since Monday with many shops making display of sweets.

Those not having mothers visit the Matatirtha Temple in Thankot to offer homage to their deceased mother. Making offers at the Matatirtha Pond is associated to the myth of a young boy who saw a reflecting image of his dead mother in the pond's water.

The festival, according to nepalnews, is observed in India and most Hindu communities around the world with various activities.
