Islamabad, June 18 : Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has claimed that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had once called Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain 'the biggest terrorist in Pakistan'.
The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman revealed that Musharraf had said this at a meeting with the top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), attended by Shahbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, in 1999.
"General Musharraf had told them that Altaf Hussain was receiving funds from India for terrorist activities," the Dawn quoted Imran, as saying at a press conference.
Asserting that all the political parties were aware of the MQM's deeds, he said, "But now, the President is protecting Altaf Hussain for the sake of power, which clearly indicates that General Musharraf holds himself first and not Pakistan. But I am determined to fight against Altaf till my last breath".
Imran, who is registering case against Hussain in UK courts for allegedly inciting the May 12 Karachi violence, said that the number of witnesses coming forward against the MQM chief is increasing, adding that the evidence would be enough to prove the violent nature of the party.
Responding to a query on the allegation made by him against Hussain that the latter has threatened to kill him, Imran said, "If I am harmed, both President Musharraf and MQM chief Altaf Hussain would be responsible for that."
