BRUSSELS --
The EU has called on the Serbian Government to increase efforts geared towards completing Hague cooperation.
The EU wants the Serbian Government to implement its Action Plan for Hague Cooperation to the fullest extent. According to EU officials, they are prepared to reinstate Stabilization and Association talks with Serbia as soon as Hague cooperation is completed.
EU Ministers stated that they want to support a peaceful and progressive Serbia which is completely built into the family of European nations, something that is very important for regional stability.
European diplomatic sources have stated that EU senior officials are preparing a report on the implementation of the action plan of the Serbian Government for Hague cooperation. It has also been stated that EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn will tell Belgrade that all EU discussions will be reinstated if Serbia does what is expected of it by the international community as far as Hague cooperation is concerned.
At the last EU Ministerial meeting, presiding Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said that the EU wants to closely cooperate with Belgrade on the action plan because the implementation of the plan will solve many problems in EU relations with Serbia.
“We want the Serbian Government’s plan to be implemented, because that will solve many ongoing questions we have with Serbia. This would receive a very warm reception. We in the European Union want to be working with Serbia and want to see Serbia complete its obligations and promises.” Erkki Tuomioja said.
