Malaysia drops sedition charges against Indian activists
    Malaysia Sun
    Monday 26th November, 2007
    (IANS)

Ethnic Indians in Malaysia claimed victory Monday as sedition charges against three leaders of rights group were dropped, a day after the police crushed a rally of more than 10,000 Indians immigrants.

Three key leaders of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), a Malaysia rights group, were discharged by a court after dropping sedition charges for speeches earlier this month in which they criticised preferential treatment for majority Muslim Malays, malaysiakini.com reported.

The trio had faced three years in jail.

About 1,000 jubilant supporters carried the freed activists out of the court premises on their shoulders.

One of the demands of the Sunday rally was the release of the three Hindraf members. The rally was also meant to support a $4 trillion lawsuit filed in London in August by Hindraf, demanding that Britain compensate Malaysian Indians for bringing their ancestors to the country as indentured labourers and exploiting them.

'We are seeking justice for the Indian community and today's verdict shows that we have made a small step in the correct direction,' said P. Waythamoorthy, chairman of Hindraf, which organised the demonstration.

'It is a victory for the Indian community in Malaysia, but there is still a lot more work to do,' he said after the court ruled the charges must be dropped because prosecutors failed to provide transcripts of speeches made by the three.

Ethnic Indians constitute eight percent of the total population of 27 million but control just 1.5 percent of the economy.

Malaysia drops sedition charges against Indian activists

the reason why they fail to control a fair percentage of the economy is because they can’t even manage a positive image of them self and the country. the only thing that they accomplish to do is degrading the Malaysian image internationally.

    my thought..

i think there always a reason for something to happen. maybe the government is unjust and maybe they are not..but i think the reason why this happen because.. the presiden of the indian ethnic is not playing a powerful as to develop the community.. for all i know he receive a lot of project and priviledge..but i think it end up to be own by malay or chinese ..since they can give a better offer for the tender or project.. anyhow.. we all should live in a peaceful life as a community not by separation.

Yeah, Abid is right to some extent. The Chinks had managed their image better, hence their greater influence on politics.

    what makes it too dificult

Absolutefairness, You are the 1 talking about INDIAN CRAPS!! Dont simply hate Melayu and become a RASIST yourself . Rather that fill up your bloody head with hatreds , why not do something for your own good . Try to improve and help your own comunity . Being RASIST and CONFRONTATIONAL never works la! Use your head ! You should be ashamed of yourself. I bet most of the teachers in your school or uni before are malays. And these malays developed your intelectual thinking to be a RASIST...hahah! You’re really funny man !
