Back to Buddhism, Malaysian woman wants to move on
    Malaysia Sun
    Friday 9th May, 2008
    (IANS)

'All I want to do now is find a boyfriend and get on with my life,' says a Malaysian woman who created history by reverting to Buddhism from Islam.

In a landmark verdict Thursday, a Shariat court that deals with cases covered by Islamic jurisprudence permitted Tan Ean Huang, 39, to renounce Islam, the country's state religion.

She had told the court that she had become a Muslim during her brief marriage to an Iranian who left her after some months. She had never practised Islam.

Tan, whose Muslim name was Siti Fatimah Tan Abdullah, said she looked forward to leading a normal life again.

'It has been traumatic for me while my case was pending. However, now that it is finally over I hope to move on. I also hope to be able to find a boyfriend now that the issue surrounding my religious status has been cleared.'

She said it had been difficult to build a relationship with Chinese men as they were afraid of a getting tangled in a religious issue.

Tan said she initially did not fully understand judge Othman Ibrahim's decision, which was read out in Bahasa Malaysia interspersed with Arabic.

It was only outside the court that her lawyer, Ahmad Jailani Abdul Ghani, explained the decision. She was alarmed when a reporter told her that the Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAIP) planned to appeal the decision, but Jailani advised her that it was normal procedure and there was nothing to fear, The Star newspaper said.

HAIL GOD>>>>>> Turning point all outstanding religious issue,at last Syariah court deliver a reasonable judgement.Ms.Tan case just first step towards respecting a person right to beleif.By forcing her to stay in the religion even though she dont practise it no point. Most people convert for sake marriage ....i still suggest a civil marriage which not force people to converts.I beleive The govermennt should allowed Muslim to leave the religionif they dont practise it.I have few muslim friends facing challenge/ they want to convert out of Islam, they dont practising it (they wont pray /no fast/they drinks/they do all they devil thing/they stay oversea married with non muslim/ never convert thier wife/husband).Are they allowed to leave religion if they dont practice it??????

    Buddhism

Why use Buddhism as a reason since buddhist faith is more concern with the mind. Enlightenment or budi/BODHI is not about worshipping any God or dieties.Buddha is a prophet of peace and stop abusing his message.Islam is not against buddhism even if we are Muslim we still can be a Buddhist.

    Renounce Islam

Renounce Islam and back to her evil ways like 'All I want to do now is find a boyfriend and get on with my life,' She never practised Islam ..so what is there to renounce. Her evil ways like befriending a boy to get on with life is not Buddhism. So quite correctly back to evil. There is no jumping pad for her.

    Renounce Islam

Finally, a Malaysian citizen is given a choice to choose her religion. As God did not even force a person to choose Him, I am happy that Penang Sysriah Court is practicing what they believe. My salute to all of you.

Back to Buddhism, Malaysian woman wants to move on

I am very happy for Tan & she deserves the best of everything after what she went through & I fully support her! However The Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAIP)has no right to interfere into the matter anymore. Come on lah give the woman her life and get on with you own lives! This is freedom of faith!Good Luck Tan & I sincerely wish you all the best!

    Religion

Religion is a private personal affair like ones going to toilet to have their privacy. Imposing on one being by another is historical going to be a failure from the start. History has repeatly shows itself. Today you can impose, but the true feeling and thoughts will never be shown until it comes like a ton of brick. So the same wisdom of American have demonstrate they lack to understanf the deep undelying truth. After the intial victory in Iraq, they think they have suceeded,, but they are like sinking in quicksand, like what happen in Vietnam. The power of the mind will be the winner of the game. Mullahs ands Monks are just mouth piece without the sophiscated brain piece. The power of superior system will always prevails over the weak. Time will tell. Anyway best of luck to Miss Tan/Fatimah.

There is no compulsion in religion

The Quran states that there is no compulsion in religion. One cannot use force on others. Leave religion as a personal matter, not a public affair.

    Why Buddhism.

Miss Tan’s assertion of her Buddhist prayers to Toa Pek Kong, Kuan Yin and Thee Kong has nothing to do with the Buddha’s Teaching. She named Buddhism as a matter of convenience. A little research on Miss Tan’s part in The Buddha’s Teaching is appropriate. Miss Tan has just jumped from a red hot frying pan I wish her a safe landing pad.
