Nepal monarchy will go in May
    Malaysia Sun
    Monday 12th May, 2008

The Nepal monarchy will be formally abolished on the 28th of May when the country will be declared a republic.

The Maoist party, which was victorious in last month's landmark elections will draft the country's new constitution.

The Maoist party now has 220 of the 601 seats in the Nepal constitutional assembly.

The move will end the world's only Hindu monarchy, which has been on the throne for 240 years.

King Gyanendra took absolute power in 2005 after the civilian government proved incapable of dealing with the Maoist insurgency.

In response to the King's move, the rebels and political parties joined forces to restore democracy.

    kingship in Nepal

I think we all should be very serious before briging radical change, the main point is that will it really benefit the people of nepal? or it may bring more unharmonious society? yesterday when maoist werenot in the mainstream, there was freedom for them to do anything they like because they werenot responsible for the people and the samething may happen tomorrow because one’s shouldn’t be responsible when he is treated very badly. SO THINK BEFORE TAKING STEPS.

    king ship is going

I am sorry Kingship is going because I am used to associate Kingship with the country NEPAL. To unite all the different ethnic group kingship was the glue. Now the different groups can fight with eachother without check and balance. The present leaders who are in power /will be in power will find very difficult to govern without an umbrella.Nepalis KEEP cool. Jai Nepal

    King Gyanendra

I have no sympathy to this current King. Birendra was the real peopls' king because he is no more here. I don’t any more king in Nepal. Here is a proverb: “Kali aja ko bholi”.

Nepal monarchy will go in May

This is not a day to celebrate but to rethink and recollect. In days to come, the picture of its after effects will prevail. Then the political parties will have to take full accountability to people of Nepal.

Nepal monarchy will go in May

This is a bad news for Nepal which has had such a glorious past and a rich culture under the monarchy.

    Iagree with aryan

His Majesty is a symbol of Nationalism and the country itself.I don’t belive the Maoist have enough support or guts to depose him. They will try thier best to incite the masses inorder to hang on the power.

why is it that Nepal and Tibet cannot be their own countries

It is hard for me to understand what is happening in Nepal and Tibet. Are they going to be Chinese Republics run by Maoist pigs. I am an American so I know nothing but freedom. Whoever is responsible for forcing their beliefs on these two tiny nations, which were their own non-violent nations, who can exile a king and dahli lama is a force to be reckoned with. I have no idea why we still allow China to export eveything that is allowed in America. We have our own people that need our help. Fuck China, Korea, and any other asian country trying to interfere with peoples liberty. Fuck Bush to allow NAFTA to seemingly run by itself. I have watched the olympics my whole life by the way I’m fifty so I’ve seen you know! How in God’s name did China get nominated to run the Olympics this year. What all of a sudden we’re friends. They are fucking communists bastards. After all this is said and done, Nepalese and Tibetans will be in my prayers, my Jesus Christ prayers.I think things happen for a reason 7.9 earthquake killing all innocent people not the entire Maoist government. Too bad!!!
