'Little India' mosque in Malaysia a symbol of tolerance
    Malaysia Sun
    Saturday 19th December, 2009
    (IANS)

The sultan of Selangor, Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has opened Masjid India Muslim, a renovated mosque patronized by ethnic Indians that has become a symbol of tolerance.

Speaking at the opening Friday, he pointed out that the mosque was located near churches, Hindu temples and Sikh gurdwaras.

'The Muslims must remind themselves of the need to be united with all. Masjid India Muslim is known to all in the Klang Valley and throughout Selangor. So it is an icon of unity and brotherhood among Klang Muslims despite their different ethnicity,' he said.

Sharafuddin added that the migration of Indian Muslims to Malaysia began in the 1400s due to trade and missionary work to spread Islam.

According to documents tracing the advent of Islam to the present-day Malaysia, the first to arrive in Sarawak were Muslims from Cambay in Gujarat.

Ethnic Indians, of which Muslims are a part, number an estimated two million and constitute about eight percent of Malaysia's multi-ethnic population.

malaysia is the only nation that legalized racism and still practising apartheid. the civilized world is now watching the malay bumiputra and their attitude toward the minority. if we could see now, the malay bumiputra is some what lost their respect from the world, we can see how the malay goverment look stupid when they talk in the united nation about humanright, while they themself practising apartheid in their own country, maybe they don’t know if the other nation watching them with disgust and even mocking those malay people once they are outside of their country

My family left Malaysia over 30 years ago. Every few years I would go back for a visit, and each time I would shake my head, sfter seeing the Malay racism and bigotry. I am eternally grateful that my parents have the wisdom to leave that place.
