    (ANI)

Kula Lumpur, Jan 1 : Mohd Noor Mat Amin, a photojournalist, is all set to enter the record books as he seeks to climb the peak of Mount Kinabalu 111 times within 111 days to support the 1Malaysia concept.

Mohd Noor, 42, who works for Utusan Malaysia, began his climb at 10am yesterday.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah was also present to encourage him.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Kamaruzaman Ampon was also present at the Kinabalu Park's Timpohon Gate.

"I'm so thankful I have been given this opportunity to realise my dream," the Star Online quoted Mohd Noor, as saying.

Mohd Noor said he wanted to reach the mountain's highest point at Low's Peak, located at an altitude of 4,095m, by 4pm and then turn around and reach Timpohon Gate four hours later.

He added: "Even if it rains, I will try to maintain my pace."

News came in by the evening that he had succeeded.

Mohd Noor will be hiking up the mountain every day until April 19 and again from May 1 to 7 hoping to make it to the Guinness World Records after that.

His project called 1Climb, 1Mountain, 1Malaysia was jointly organised by UMS and the Kota Recreation Club in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry, the state Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry as well as KL Tower.

Mohd Noor has another feat to his credit - he has also climbed up the Kuala Lumpur Tower 111 times.
