    Postage stamps to commemorate cricket World Cup

    The Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) board, in collaboration with the philatelic bureau of the Department of Post and Telecommunications, will issue postage stamps to commemorate the 2007 cricket World Cup.

    The stamps, priced at Sri Lankan Rs.5 and Rs.50, will be officially launched Friday at the SLC headquarters. Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Rauff Hakeem and Minister of Sports Bandula Basnayake will be present at the launch ceremony.

    The World Cup in the Caribbean islands starts March 11 and Sri Lanka are clubbed in Group B with India, Bangladesh and Bermuda.

    Sri Lanka will play their first match against Bermuda March 15 and then play Bangladesh March 21. Their last group match will be against India March 23.

    Sri Lanka recently lost the four match series to India 2-1. All the Group B matches will be played in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago.
