Kokomo passes smoking ban

Updated:

Kokomo - Another Indiana community has opted to go smoke-free. The Kokomo City Council passed a smoke-free air ordinance by a vote of 6-3 Monday night.

The ban applies to all public places and workplaces, including restaurants, and takes effect in 30 days. Kokomo is the 26th municipality in Indiana to adopt a smoke-free air ordinance. In Indiana, more than a third of the Hoosier population is now protected by smoke free ordinances compared to just three percent in 2000.

The measure is expected to be signed into law this week.
