Dallas Police Say Terrell Owens Attempted Suicide

Updated:

DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police say Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself with an overdose of pain medication.

Police also say Owens told a woman friend he was "depressed."

Police say the friend saw that a bottle of Owens' pain medicine was empty and noticed him putting two pills in his mouth.

According to the report, the woman used her fingers to try prying them out.

The woman was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied.

When rescuers arrived, police say they asked Owens if he was trying to harm himself, and he answered "yes."

Owens broke his right hand in a September 17th game.

He was at team practice yesterday, but by last night he was hospitalized with what his publicist claimed was an allergic reaction to pain medicine.

Neither the publicist nor a Cowboys spokesman returned repeated calls from The Associated Press.
