A Pooler woman is $125,000 richer thanks to a scratch-off ticket she bought at a gas station. WTOC spoke with the lucky lady this afternoon. She won what's call Lost Treasure, but in her case, it's more like found treasure.
Tammy Palmer buys scratch-off tickets every once in a while and never wins more than $50, but this weekend she walked away a big winner, and now has bigger plans for her family.
All that money goes a long way when it comes to making dreams come true. Now as Palmer holds up her check from the Georgia Lottery, she's thinking of her family's future.
"Now I can buy a home for my family and myself," she said.
Palmer was in Swainsboro visiting her husband when she bought a couple of scratch-off tickets from a BP gas station on West Main Street.
Palmer was eating lunch when she decided to take a break and play. "I almost hit the floor and I couldn't believe it," she said. "I didn't have anyone around me to say, 'Is this real?' so I went to another couple's table and asked them."
When they told her yes, she didn't know what to do, so she took her winning ticket got in the car and drove home. "I cried all the way here and kept saying, 'Thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus.'"
Palmer has two children and has been living at a friend's house while she saved money to find a place to live. Now her dream of having her own place will soon come true.
"I never had anything all my life and, I am not a material person, but now it's happened and I don't know how to act," she said.
Besides buying a home for her family, Palmer also plans to buy a convertible, something she says she has always wanted.
