Kenyan police have been accused of executing and torturing more than eight thousand people during a crackdown on a banned sect.
A human rights group in Kenya, the Free Legal Aid Clinic, has released a report claiming police attempted to wipe out the Mungiki sect in revenge murders.
The report said Kenya's General Service Unit carried out the killings during operations in slum areas.
The document was based on interviews with relatives, autopsy reports, and police and other records.
A Kenyan police spokesman has dismissed the report and accused members of the human rights group of having questionable motives.
The police have said criminals are responsible.
Recently, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights linked police to the deaths of nearly 500 Mungiki over the last five months.
