Vedder, Greenwood not eligible for Oscars
    Malaysia Sun
    Wednesday 23rd January, 2008
    (IANS)

Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder did not receive Oscar nominations because their soundtracks were ruled ineligible.

The omissions were surprising but the rules were clear, contactmusic.com reports.

Greenwood could not have hoped for a nomination for the movie 'There Will Be Blood' because a large part of the soundtrack was not written for the film. It was mainly taken from Greenwood's composition 'Popcorn superhit receiver', which was commissioned by the BBC and also won him a British Composer Award in 2007.

Vedder's soundtrack for 'Into the Wild' directed by actor Sean Penn did not qualify because the score is too 'song-based.'

Vedder, Greenwood not eligible for Oscars

"too song-based”?! so it doesn’t matter if it’s the best soundtrack, what crap!

"Too song-based”? Would someone tell me what the hell that exactly means?

    oscars

Oscars are a joke anyway “too song-based” Eddie’s soundtrack is way too good to be getting one of those anyway. The fans approval is worth more than the weight of that piece of junk trophy.....

The most boring show on earth

I’ll be taking a pass again this year. Never understood the appeal of an awards show like that. Maybe we’ll get some pop princess singing a tune from “Enchanted” . Gimme a break. Some people have truly forgotten where music comes from. The Heart and an instrument. Rock on Eddie!

It’s “too song-based” to be considered for the Best Score category, not for Best Song. And Guaranteed was not eligible for Best Song because it isn’t an integral part of the movie, but rather plays over the credits.
