Plans to build a new fence along the Israeli-Egyptian border could cost US$1.37 billion.
The fence, similar to the security fence separating Israel from the Palestinian Authority which is made out of dense concrete and includes watchtowers, would take up to five years.
Sources in the Finance Ministry have said that the government would have to shuffle money, as the mass funding necessary for the completion of the Israeli-Egyptian border project would require dipping into various government department budgets.

more barriers in 2008?It is absurd and pathetic that Israel has to live within self-erected fences. It is telling us that people there lack people skills and are not able to get along with most of its neighbors. Find another country that has to build walls around itself in 2008. |

Actually the Show is on the other footActually Walls, Fences, or other barriers whether man made or natural (such as Oceans or Rivers) between neighbouring nations are not particularly unusual...
On a personal scale most people have a fence between themselves and there next door neighbour
After all good fences make good neighbours
What is unusual is the suggestion that only Israel is not entitled to build a fence to secure itself from the aggression of its neighbours.
Interestingly enough the point about bad people skills is not entirely misplaced. However, the shoe is definitely on the wrong foot
For in many places in the World where Islam interfaces or comes up against a different culture there is a “Clash of cultures” and more often than not violence..
In Kashmir there is a Islam vs Hindu clash
In Anbon in Indonesia there is Islam vs Christinaity. Similarly, in Lebanon its Islam vs Christinanity again..
Let’s not mention various no go areas within Western Societies where there are Islamic Enclaves..Just look at parts of Britain eg Birmingham
Moreover, within Islamic societies there is often a violent clash between different sects of Islam..Iraq is the best example where milinnia old conflict between Sunni and Shiite Islam is playing itself out... |
