Turkey cancels visit after genocide comment
    Malaysia Sun
    Friday 25th April, 2008

Turkey has cancelled a visit by Turkish minister Mehmet Aydin to Buenos Aires after the Argentinian government recognised the Armenian genocide.

Turkey's government has fiercely criticised Argentina for responding to a declaration by the Argentinian parliament referring to the genocide of Armenians by Turks.

Between 1915 and 1918 an estimated one-and-a-half million ethnic Armenians were murdered by Ottoman Turks.

The Armenians refer to the killings as genocide while Turkey has always contested the use of the term.
