Tennessee unemployment 4.6% in September

Tennessee's unemployment rate dropped 1.1 percent to 4.6 percent for September, according to the latest data from the state's department of Labor & Workforce Development.
The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for August was 5.7 percent.
Tennessee's September numbers mirror a national rate of 4.6 percent, which is down from 4.7 percent in August.
"Tennessee has continued to see slow growth over the last several months," Labor & Workforce Development commissioner James Neeley said in a statement. "This month's decrease in the rate is reflecting that continued growth and the strengthening of Tennessee's economy."
With the hospitality industry taking the largest job loss hit from August to September with 3,200 jobs lost, educational services in local governments saw an increase of 9,100 jobs.
Trade, transportation and utility jobs increased by 9,900 in September 2006, compared to September 2005.
Manufacturing employment decreased by 4,700, food and beverage stores by 1,500 and administrative/support/waste service jobs decreased by 1,200 from September 2005 to September 2006.
Seasonally adjusted labor force estimates for Tennessee in September show 2.85 million employed from a labor force of 2.99 million.
