Camillus Cyclocross Clinic and Training Sessions
by Matt Howey
Published: 09/07/2006

CAMILLUS, NY (SEPTEMBER 7, 2006) -- SpokePost.com Cycling, a USA Cycling sanctioned club, announces a series of cyclocross skills and training clinics starting on Wednesday, September 13th starting at 5:45. For a mere $20 one-time fee (Under 20 years attend for free!!), riders of all abilities will be able to participate and learn in 11 -- yes, 11 -- skills and training sessions at the Town of Camillus Park in Camillus NY. Riders of ALL ages and abilities are encouraged to attend. You don't have to plan on racing cyclocross to come, you just have to be interested in learning more about the discipline of cyclocross. The training isn't bad either!

The first session will include instruction and coaching from highly experienced (and fast, I might add!) cyclocrosser and USCF category 2 road racer, Jeremy Burton. Other experienced category 2 and 3 riders will be on hand to assist with instruction, equipment questions and coaching as well. Riders can participate with a cyclocross bike, mountain bike or even a road bike with aggressive tires. Kids can even participate with a BMX bike!

Week 1 will focus on basic cyclocross skills such as approaching barriers, dismounting, crossing the barrier and remounting the bike. If you've never seen a good cyclocross racer do this, it is truly an athletic movement to behold. We will have plenty of barriers setup to practice on.

Subsequent weeks will cover more advanced skills such as run-ups and increasing your speed and smoothness during barrier crossings. Sessions will be held on Wednesday nights through Wednesday, October 4th at which point (due to lack of daylight), they will move to Saturdays and Sundays per the schedule posted on the clinic information page: http://spokepost.com/cross/clinic/

Registration is available directly at each event, however, we encourage you to utilize BikeReg.com to pre-register for the event to reduce time on the day of the session. You may register at any point during the sessions, however, we encourage newer riders to participate in the earlier sessions as these will be the most "instructionally heavy" sessions. As riders skills advance, we will run short and informal "training cyclocross races".

Again, we encourage brand-new as well as experienced cyclocross riders to attend. There will be no egos at these events, just good, down-home fun! All registered riders will receive a coupon good for DEEP discounts off the retail price of several cyclocross bike models, courtesy of Syracuse Bicycle. This deal is ONLY for registered participants and is extremely generous for Syracuse Bicycle to offer these great deals.

Hope to see you all there! Come learn about this exciting fall/winter sport that has been referred to as the Indy Car street racing of bicycles.
